Building up on their message of ‘Love Myself’ at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2018, this year BTS’s message at the 75th UNGA was ‘Life goes on. Let’s live on’.

The band was invited by the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security to address on the difficulties the future generation will have to face due to the pandemic. The Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security was launched by South Korea to strengthen the UN’s response to health security issues like COVID-19. And at present, it includes Qatar, Denmark, Canada, Sierra Leone and Korea with other UN member states being invited to participate freely.

The event was broadcast live through the United Nations official YouTube channel and UN Web TV, with the member states co-chairing.

Referencing to their own fears and doubts brought through the pandemic, the members said despite the hard times, they were able to find hope through music, their friends, family and the fans.

“If our voices can give strength to people, then that is what we want and that is what we’ll keep doing,” said Jungkook.

The group who has been promoting since 2013 with hardly any breaks announced a short hiatus just before the pandemic broke out in Korea. The outbreak resulted in the group’s world tour being cancelled and many of their appearances on shows being turned virtual. However, the members also credit this time to a period of finding their inner selves. It inspired them with their new music and will tell their story through the new album set to release next month.

Jin said “Thinking about the future and trying hard are all important. But cherishing yourself, encouraging yourself and keeping yourself happy is the most important’.

The COVID- 19 pandemic has caused devastation in the lives of many people across the world. Especially amongst the youths many have lost their jobs, love ones, and are forced to adapt to a sudden change. And BTS’s message at the assembly reminds us all that we aren’t alone.

Giving her welcoming remarks at the assembly and crediting BTS for their positive messages Kang Kyung Hwa the Foreign Minister of Korea said, “The power of BTS to inspire young and some old people around the world is truly amazing. The hopes they raise among the young must be matched by concerted government action to address the mounting challenges the younger generations face”.

BTS were also special guests at the first Youth Day celebrations in Korea and shared their messages of encouragement on changing the world with brilliant ideas and becoming pioneers of one’s generation.
